ICC U-17 Americas Tournament “Rebranded” as U-18 Event

According to a report on the DreamCricket web site, “This year’s ICC Americas U-17 tournament, scheduled to take place from July 8-15 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been reclassified as the ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Camp between USA, Canada and Bermuda.”

CCA U-17 Tournament, 15-17 June

It might yet be possible for MCA to participate in the California Cricket Academy U-17 tournament, 15-17 June (MCA has been represented at this tournament every year for the last five years). If you are or your son is eligible to play and available, please let MCA know as soon as possible. A parent coach/manager will be required as neither of MCA’s Joint Head Coaches is available to travel.

Motown-MCA in the Great Lakes Tournament

The joint Motown C.C. / MCA team, captained by Sathish Thandapani, has now played three of its four group matches in MichCA’s Great Lakes Tournament (T20). On 29 April, Motown-MCA played at Grand Rapids, where the home team set a challenging target of 174 after being put in (Billa with 41 not out and Rahul with 31 led the way for the home team, while Mani’s figures of 2-24 were best among the visiting bowlers’). In reply, the visitors came close, as opener Jay Nirban (40) and Mani, batting two down (also 40) led the run charge, but, in the end, the visitors paid for some rusty fielding that allowed Grand Rapids to score over 100 runs in the last ten overs, ending their innings on 158/9, to lose by 16 runs.

On 12 May Motown-MCA easily defeated Canton C. C. in Canton, bowling the opposition out for under 100, with Mani again starring with the ball, this time taking five wickets, while Jay Nirban led a successful run chase.

On 19 May, again at Canton, Motown-MCA went down to a strong Detroit Super Kings team, with DSK’s Prasanna dominating with the bat.

Motown-MCA’s last group fixture is scheduled for this weekend, against Wayne State C.C.

MCA-Motown Practice Thursday, 31 May, Lyon Oaks; Weekend Fixtures

MCA and Motown C. C. will hold the clubs’ regular joint practice at the Lyon Oaks nets on Thursday, 31 May. The MichCA fixture list for the coming weekend, released today, has the Motown-MCA joint team playing a 40-overs match on Saturday (against Lyons C. C.) and a T20 match at Hartland on Sunday afternoon (against Wayne State). Please let the Motown-MCA captain, Sathish Thandapani know of your availability for each match, but also check for possible changes in the fixture list.
